Wado Ryu for Children (7-12 years)

Our children’s classes are designed to teach students much more than just how to kick and punch; they gain many life skills whilst doing so. We aim to improve the health and well-being of our children, whilst supporting, encouraging and influencing them to achieve the most from their life as well as within martial arts.

The content of the class will vary each week, but will include the following:

  • Kihon
Basics or fundamentals – this is where they learn the basic techniques, introducing them to the movements and how to control their limbs, improving hand-eye co-ordination.
  • Padwork
Practising various combinations on the pads, allows them to understand why they’re executing the technique in a certain way, in a safe, controlled manner. This encourages teamwork by working with a partner, showing respect by offering the other student an opportunity to learn and improve.
  • Kata
This is a pre-determined form of moves which is practised in solo form. Our Kitsu’s kata’s have been specifically designed for children. They’re shorter than the adult kata’s, providing a positive environment for them to learn and understand about kata, before moving to the adult’s class and syllabus.

Our Kitsu grading syllabus promotes personal development, through their own effort and achievement they improve self-confidence and develop life skills that will follow through their life.
